Depression Can Affect Many Areas of Your Life

Depression can be very common but manifest itself in many ways by affecting mood, emotions, and/or behaviour. Despite the weight of depression, it isn’t something you should be embarrassed talking about.  Depression is treatable and worth seeking help to overcome. Common Symptoms of Depression Include:

  • Trouble concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions (spacy, forgetful, indecisive)
  • Fatigue (tired, weak)
  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, and helplessness (insignificant, not in control)
  • Pessimism and hopelessness (distrust, melancholy, negative)
  • Insomnia, early-morning wakefulness, or sleeping too much (trouble sleeping)
  • Irritability (annoyed easily)
  • Restlessness (agitated, impatient)
  • Loss of interest in things once pleasurable, including sex (nothing is fun, no joy)
  • Overeating, or appetite loss (eating too much, or not hungry)
  • Aches, pains, headaches, or cramps that won’t go away
  • Digestive problems that don’t get better, even with treatment (upset stomach)
  • Persistent sad, anxious, or “empty” feelings
  • Suicidal thoughts or attempts
