At Your Counselling we believe that the need to connect with others, to explore ones sense of self and to understand our emotional, cognitive, behavioural and interpersonal relations are common human experiences. We believe that with psychotherapy space is created for this reflective process.

A core value of Your Counselling is the belief that people are resilient and with increased self-awareness, reflection, and skill development they can have a greater sense of meaning and overall happiness in their daily life.

We started Your Counselling to change the way people view therapy. Counselling is not about one person fixing another, it’s about working together to overcome whatever struggles you are facing so you can live your best life.

We want people to feel comfortable and empowered by their decision to seek help, because it is a courageous thing to do, rather than feeling scared or apprehensive. Your Counselling exists to help you be your greatest self.

Get to Know Us

All of our Calgary Therapist’s believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship in assisting clients in achieving  their goals. We utilize client-centered approach’s to identify the best therapeutic foundation to your counselling journey. Therapists are trained in a number of therapeutic modalities including: cognitive behavioural therapy, solution focused therapy and narrative approaches. In our practice we feel the development of increased self-awareness is an integral part of any healing journey.

Jeff Sturgeon

Managing Director

BSc, BSW, MSW, RSW

Jeff  has over 10 years experience working as a mental health professional helping individuals and families in a variety of capacities. As a Registered Social Worker he has experience in the assessment and treatment of a variety of mental health struggles. He is passionate about helping others which led him to the fields of psychology and counselling. What makes Jeff happy is helping individuals and families improve their quality of life and overcome struggles. Jeff believes that the therapeutic process is a unique and valuable journey for everyone. Jeff approaches his work from a number of therapeutic influences and most often practices from Solution Focused, Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavior principles. Jeff’s approach to psychotherapy is to work with clients to increase their day to day presence and overall satisfaction in life. His goal is to help individuals make positive changes and move past the barriers that may be creating distress in their lives.

Susan J. Morison

M.A, R.Psych

Susan is a Registered Psychologist and has specializations in both clinical and forensic psychology.  She has worked within the mental health and corrections systems in Canada and the United States, providing generalized and specialized assessment and treatment for a wide array of psychological and behavioral issues. Susan is a firm believer in human potential and the capacity for change.  Over her lengthy career, she has witnessed people overcome some of life’s most adverse challenges and struggles.  She believes that, with support, knowledge and the right tools, change is always possible. Susan does not provide couples therapy, however, and does not work with children or younger adolescents.

Brendan Kearns

BSW, MSW, RSW

Brendan is a Registered Social Worker who has been practicing within the mental health field for over nine years in varying capacities. He has spent time working with children, families, and with individuals to help prepare them to engage with life’s challenges in healthy, productive ways. He enjoys seeing clients understand their goals in life, and coming to terms with how to achieve them through taking conscious action in value driven ways. He uses cognitive behavioral as well as acceptance and commitment therapy models as he believes that these approaches allow client’s to engage in their treatment in such a way that is unique to the individual issues that bring them into psychotherapy to begin with. He has experience with assessment and diagnostic conceptualization and is happy to involve outside professionals including psychiatry should a requirement of care fall outside of his scope of practice. He does not work with young children under the age of 12.

Solomon Agaje

M. Phil. Psych.,

Solomon is a Registered Psychologist with experience in individual and group therapy. He offers individual and group therapeutic interventions that are drawn from evidence-based applications of Mindfulness; Dialectical Behaviour Therapy; Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy and, Narrative Therapy.  Solomon’s goal is to foster a therapeutic environment that facilitates safe discovery, healing, and hope through the therapeutic alliance. He believes that with therapeutic exploration one can build awareness, process wounding, promote integration and work towards living a more fulfilling life. Solomon also offer’s services in Amharic.
